About

It’s good advice for any organization: Don’t chase the money. That is, don’t pursue grants that will take your organization away from its core work. But it’s rare that you’ll find a funder whose priorities and requirements align perfectly with your funding needs. That makes it easy to fall into the trap of building your project to suit the funder first and your organization second (or barely at all).

Nevertheless, it is possible to avoid this trap and steer clear of the dreaded “mission creep” that results. The key to persuading funders that the project you want to do is the project they want to support lies in how you frame it.

This training is for anyone who participates in grant development or program planning—grant writers, program directors, EDs, and others.

Participants will come away understanding:

  • how to build the right grant writing team (hint: it’s not just the grant writer who’s responsible for creating a great proposal);
  • how to “think like a funder” when presenting program activities and developing attainable project goals;
  • the project details every proposal should include;
  • how to recognize when a particular funder or funding opportunity is simply not a good fit.

Stefanie Lindeman
