Mobile giving is a broad term used to describe fundraising campaigns in which donors may contribute to a nonprofit through a mobile web site, using a mobile application, or by texting (SMS). As smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices have overtaken PCs and laptops as most individuals' primary means of accessing the Internet, the percentage of giving to nonprofits through mobile technology has risen accordingly.

How can my nonprofit get started with mobile fundraising?

The first step should be to ensure that your organization's web site is responsively designed. If users aren't able to easily access and navigate your web site on a mobile device, they're unlikely to donate. The same principle applies to email solicitations and other online communications. Larger organizations may find it beneficial to invest in developing a mobile application (or app) that complements the organization's web site but allows for additional interaction.
