Where can I find historical tax returns and annual reports for foundations?

You can often find Forms 990 from 3-10 years ago online via websites that provide access to these forms.

Many foundation annual reports are archived at the Indiana University Indianapolis Library (formerly IUPUI) which manages the Center's Historical Foundation Collection.

Our Historical Foundation Collection consists of materials obtained from private foundations, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and public sources since our establishment in 1956. The collection consists of four sub-collections:

• IRS Tax Document Collection
  • Request historical Forms 990-PF from IUPUI
• Annual Reports (including a searchable database of holdings)
  • Request annual report information from IUPUI
• Historical Information Files
• Print Directories

For older Forms 990, you also can request them directly from the organization or the IRS.
