As a Vice President in Walmart’s eCommerce (Central) Operations, Sylvester is in the center of one of the most strategic priorities for the company - intersection of digital and physical retail. Within this space, he previously had divisional responsibility for store pickup field operations across select regions, business development, digital customer experience, new customer propositions, and internal governance management; now he leads last mile delivery, including responsibility for related data/analytics, technology and field operations.
Prior to Walmart, Sylvester had a long career with the international non-profit organization, Enactus, where he was International President and founding head of their Office for Strategic Initiatives. While serving a 3-year term as President of Enactus’ 36-country International Affiliate Division, Sylvester led a network of over 40,000 individuals to increase the overall revenue by 50%, constituent base by 28%, beneficiaries by 60%, and country performance index by 10%, all despite a 20% country reduction resulting from global network consolidation. Previously, while serving as founding head of the International Operations unit, Sylvester and his team developed and rolled out worldwide information systems, processes and online database management tools that still form the backbone of Enactus’ international operations. During his 6-year term as head of its Africa region, he established the continental organization and developed it to where it operated in 12 countries and continues to be the top performing region, based on annual comprehensive in-country performance assessment.
Sylvester graduated from the University of North Florida (UNF) with Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in both Marketing and Management and pursued an MBA at Webster University. Currently a board director of Candid (formerly Foundation Center and GuideStar), he has also served as chairman or director of non-profit organizations in a dozen countries across the world. Sylvester was USA and Ghana Chairman of the world’s largest strategy and management competition, Global Management Challenge, member of the World Economic Forum’s Transformation Leaders (Agriculture) Network, and advisory board member of University of North Florida’s (UNF) Coggin College of Business, Chief Marketing Officer Council, and Russia’s largest university, the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA). He received the Constituency for Africa’s African Pioneer award in 2012 and his Alma Mata, University of North Florida, honored him in 2007 and 2009 with the Outstanding Alumnus of the Year and Prime Osborne Distinguished Business Leader awards, respectively.
A native of Sierra Leone with US dual citizenship, Sylvester has spent more than 10 years living in Ghana and Togo. He and his wife now live in Bentonville, AR with their two daughters.
