The partnership between the Executive Director and the Board Chair is an interdependent one that requires consistent communication and collaboration. It is not only essential to ensure good board governance, but it is also important to your organization’s success. The Board Chair and Executive Director must be able to clarify and be on the same page regarding their roles, nurture a trusting and supportive relationship and create the space for honest conversations.
The goal of this session is to explore the keys to a successful relationship and use the relationship as a vehicle to support a healthy board culture that fosters successful board service that meets both the organization’s and the board member’s needs and expectations.
In this workshop participants will:
- Discuss the roles and responsibilities of the Executive Director and Board Chair
- Explore the importance of value sharing as a part of trust-building and its impact on the partnership between the Executive Director & Board Chair
- Identify key factors in the relationship that contribute to strengthening the overall board and organization performance
- Create an action plan using effective strategies to balance the power dynamics and utilize the ED/Board Chair relationship to create a thriving Board Culture
