About

This interactive, practical workshop will feature a case study as a basis for exploring the role of the board in strategic planning.  We will review the “bottom line” expectations and the wide variety of ways that boards can fulfill their fundamental responsibility to ensure that their organization has a clear strategic vision, a practical plan and a reasonable approach to financial sustainability.  Moreover, we will discuss the ways that a strategic planning process can actually engage the board and help focus the board on its role in your organization’s success.

Board development consultant Lisa Hoffman will moderate the discussion between Mike Allison, nonprofit management consultant, and Josh Leonard, Executive Director of the East Bay Agency for Children, who will share lessons from a strategic planning process they worked on together a few years ago. The session will be highly interactive and will aim to give participants a clear understanding of their options in structuring a strategic planning process that engages the board successfully, when a consultant is needed/most helpful, and answer other questions about how to choose the best approach for your organization.

The first 15 registrants will receive a free copy of Strategic Planning for Nonprofit Organizations: A Practical Guide for Dynamic Times, 3rd Edition, by Mike Allison and Jude Kaye.
