About David Holmes (he/him)

Dave Holmes is an Educational Programming Manager at Candid, coordinating national trainings and the training and educational programming for the Midwest region. He returned to the Foundation Center (now Candid) in 2015 from a position as Senior Consultant at Grants Plus, writing grants and doing research for a variety of large and small nonprofit clients. In his initial nine-year tenure with Foundation Center, Dave served in various roles including Regional Training Specialist, Interim Director of Foundation Center – Cleveland, and Director of Capacity and Leadership Development.

Earlier in his career, Dave served as a Program Officer for the Stocker Foundation in Lorain, Ohio, and as the Director of Grants and Prospect Research at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio. He has served on numerous local boards, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Cleveland Chapter;  Joel's Place for Children; and Upcycle Parts Shop. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an MA from Villanova University, and an MLIS from Kent State University.

About Laura Malone

In her role as Vice President at American Endowment Foundation (AEF), Laura has consulted hundreds of trusted advisors, families and business owners about donor advised funds and other charitable giving strategies.   Laura has been published in various local and national publications as well as speaks both locally and nationally to various financial, tax and estate planning organizations.

Prior to her role at AEF, Laura represented the economic and business interests of numerous government and private sector clients through corporate real estate acquisition, disposition and lease negotiations.  This expertise has led her to a special concentration at AEF in the acceptance of complex/non-cash assets like closely held stock and real estate as charitable gifts.

Laura holds her Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designation from the American College and serves as a faculty member for the Exit Planning Institute's Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) Designation.  Laura serves as Board President of the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy and serves on the Boards of Cleveland Social Venture Partners and The Estate Planning Council of Cleveland.

Founded in 1993, AEF is an IRS recognized public charity.   AEF is the largest independent Donor Advised fund in the country.  AEF was founded to provide personalized solutions and donor focused service.  A donor advised fund is an account sponsored by AEF into which a donor is able to make an irrevocable gift of various assets, both liquid and illiquid.  The donor recommends grants to qualified charities and nonprofit organizations that the donor desires to support.
